Our Best selection of heavenly beaches in Japan Looking for a beautiful beach in Japan to take it easy? Mandalay has compiled a selection of the seven most beautiful beaches in the Japanese archipelago. When we think of a trip to Japan, we come directly to mind: visits to temples, shrines or even onsens. However, this Asian country offers very beautiful beaches, very little known to tourists. On more than 30,000 km of coastline, Japanese beaches are a magical combination of white sand, blue sky, turquoise water and lush vegetation.

Japan is an archipelago surrounded by the sea. As a result, the country is dotted with magnificent and paradisiacal beaches, which are great to discover. It is the ideal archipelago for a getaway by the sea, and to enjoy its white sand, crystal clear waters and magnificent landscapes.

Beach in Japan: Amanohashidate in Kyoto

Miyazu Bay, on the north coast of Honshu in Kyoto Prefecture, is home to Amanohashidate Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Japan. It is covered in the middle by a pine forest, on a natural bridge 3.6 km long and in which it is very pleasant to walk there. Once you reach the end of this bridge, you will be blown away by the white sand and the calm, very clear water of Amanohashidate beach. This beach is more or less crowded depending on the season, but nevertheless remains very calm. From the top of Kasamatsu Park, the view of the bay and the beach is breathtaking. For hundreds of years, the tradition has been to turn your back on the arm of land (the bridge of pines) and then lean forward to look at this expanse between your legs, and have the impression that the bridge is floating on the bay. Some even call it the “bridge in the sky”.
Or sleep ? At The Thousand hotel, a 5-star hotel located in the center of Kyoto. It will seduce you with its interior design, its magnificent facilities, its luxurious spa and its top-of-the-range service.

Beach in Japan: Shirahama in Tokyo

It is the most famous beach on the Izu Peninsula, southwest of Tokyo. It is distinguished by its beautiful arc of a circle of white sand (hence the term "shira-hama" which literally means "White Beach") directly imported from Australia. But its main asset remains its Onsen, behind a discreet rocky promontory to the left of the beach, one of the oldest and most traditional baths in Japan. From this open-air pool, you can contemplate the blue of the ocean, while having your body immersed in the hot, almost scalding water. One of the most beautiful beaches in Japan.

Beach in Japan: Emerald Beach in Okinawa

Emerald Beach is one of many beaches on the sub-tropical archipelago of Okinawa. More than 500 m long, it is located inside the Ocean Park Expo (a free park where the Churaumi aquarium, one of the largest in the world, and a museum are also located). It is the only lagoon beach in Japan: it is indeed closed off by a coral reef. Reef that delights diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. Its turquoise waters and immaculate sand make Emerald Beach a beach worthy of the most beautiful postcards.

Beach in Japan: Asakawa Ozuna in Shikoku

If you are looking for peace and quiet, the south coast of Shikoku Island is what you need. It is on this island that stretches, facing the Pacific, the pretty beach of Asakawa Ozuna. Between May and August, you can observe the turtles coming to lay their eggs on the golden sand. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful beaches in Japan.

Beach in Japan: Yumigahama in Tokyo

A few kilometers from Tokyo, a long beach lined with pine trees stretches over less than a kilometer: Yumigahama, the ideal destination for picnics and fireworks in summer. Facing Sagami Bay, the beach welcomes many surfers who come to take surfing and bodyboarding lessons.
Or sleep ? In Tokyo, opt for the Allamanda Aoyama hotel located in the Minato district. You will fall in admiration in front of its luxurious decoration and its cozy atmosphere. Not to be missed: its rejuvenating spa consisting of a beautiful heated swimming pool and a jacuzzi.

Japan's Best Beaches: Nokonoshima to Fukuoka

In the middle of Hakata Bay, Nokonoshima Island is accessible by ferry from Meinohama Pier. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Japan. This island is actually a hill that flows into the sea with beaches in places. On the sand, with your feet in the turquoise water, you will see the skyscrapers of the big city of Fukuoka in the distance, including Fukuoka Tower. Further on, magnificent fields of wild flowers (daffodils, cosmos, etc.) have made the gardens of Nokonoshima famous.

The most beautiful beaches in Japan: Miyako in Okinawa

300 km south of the island of Okinawa is a paradise for swimmers and divers. This is Miyako Island, green with its many sugar cane plantations. The purity of its landscapes and its waters will surprise you. White sand, emerald sea: a real postcard setting. Its coral reefs attract snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts.
Beware, however, of currents that can drag you offshore, as well as poisonous creatures such as habu jellyfish, a species of box jellyfish particularly present from June to October.

Or sleep ? At the Iraph Sui Hotel, located on Miyako Island in Okinawa. This marvelous 5-star hotel has luxurious and spacious rooms with soft, clean lines. But what makes it famous is undoubtedly its beautiful infinity pool that seems to throw itself into the sea.

When to go to Japan?
To make the most of Japan's beaches and be sure to make the most of the good weather, we advise you to go there in spring and summer (the Archipelago has the same 4 seasons as in France). Spring is the ideal time to go to Japan and start swimming. The weather is mild and the cherry blossoms offer an unparalleled spectacle.

Mandalay advice: To avoid the influx of tourists in the spring, we advise you to choose the second half of May to go to Japan. The weather is pleasant and the monsoons almost non-existent.

To fully enjoy the beach in Japan, you can and should go there in the summer. At this time of year, it is hot and humid. The water and the sand are at the right temperature and the heat is there, whatever city you choose to visit. Watch out for mosquitoes though, which are legion at this time of year.
